Foreign Affairs

The Oireachtas Committee on Foreign Affairs considers and reports to the Houses of the Oireachtas on the expenditure, administration and policy of the  Department of Foreign Affairs. It also considers European Union matters within the Department’s remit.  Oireachtas Committees advise the Houses of the Oireachtas on a range of specific areas. Committee members include TDs, Senators or both. Committees receive submissions and presentations from members of the public, interest groups and Government Departments. Their public meetings are broadcast live and recorded and they may publish reports on specific issues. Committees also scrutinise Government expenditure and debate proposed legislation.  Recent meetings include:

  • Briefings with the Minister and officials from the Department of Foreign Affairs
  • Meetings with members of the diplomatic corps Ambassadors and senior officials
  • Non-Governmental Organisations
  • Humanitarian groups
  • Charity Groups
