Senator Gerard Craughwell

Independent Senator
Gerard Craughwell

I'm surprised at how much important work that effects so many peoples lives goes on in Leinster House, unnoticed by the general public. As an independent Senator, I intend to participate in the legislative process making it more effective and responsive to citizens needs.

Hot off the press ! In conjunction with my Independent Seanad colleagues, I produced a  short booklet on the serious implications of BREXIT for Ireland. This year I hope to establish a cross party Seanad process of inquiry on the potential impact of BREXIT. As a member of the  Implementation of the Good Friday Agreement  Committee and the Joint Oireachtas Committee on European Affairs, I have already been working closely with colleagues on both sides of the Border to identify the social, political and economic fallout from BREXIT. Key areas covered in the booklet include: Education and Research, the Pensions Industry, Financial and Insurance Services, Tourism and Migration and Agriculture along with Domestic Banking, Exports & Imports, Energy and Health among others. Having been one of the first to publicly comment on the issue of the hard versus soft border, I am anxious to keep BREXIT to the forefront of our political agenda. Copies of booklet available, please call my office on 01 6183323 and I will post one out to you.
